Need for Forgiveness

At the Last Supper, Jesus said to his Apostles, "Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins".(Matthew 28:26)

You might wonder what is the need for forgiveness, why Lord Himself came to the world and shed His blood for forgiving our sins.

Sin Alienates Us from God.

Bible says Adam and Eve's sin separated them from God. They could no longer bear to be in His presence, but sought to avoid Him(Genesis 2:17;3:8). In the book of Isaiah 59 verse 1&2 we read, Our sins and iniquities separate us from God, so He will not hear us. In Ephesians 2:12 we see People in sin are separated from Christ and without God in the world.

Forgiveness Restores Our Relationship to God.

The book of Romans 5:6-10 says, Though sin deserves punishment, God loves us so much He sent His Son to bear our punishment so we could be saved. In Ephesians 2:13 & 17-19 we see, though we were separated and far from God, we can be made nigh by the blood of Christ and have access to the Father and Colossians 1:21-23 says, our evil works make us enemies alienated from God, but through Jesus' death we can be reconciled.

The serious consequences of sin makes us understand our need for forgiveness. Emil Brunner says that just as the touch of a King’s sword on the head of a soldier, make him a Knight; so does the touch of the cross(Forgiveness and salvation) on the life of a sinner, make him a child of God.

Forgiveness is the most important one for our spiritual walk. While meditating, analyze whether all our sins forgiven and the relationship is set right with our Lord? If not its not too late ask God for the FORGIVENESS.
